1 to hospital after chemical exposure at Utah base

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — Officials say one person has sought medical attention at a hospital after being exposed to a chemical substance at Utah’s Hill Air Force Base.

Davis County sheriff’s Lt. Brad Wilcox says initial reports were that as many as 25 people had been exposed to the chemical. He now says it’s unclear how many were exposed or complaining of symptoms but that one person drove him or herself to a hospital.

Wilcox says authorities believe people on base may have been exposed after a spill of the substance, hydrazine, which is commonly used in alternative fuels for F-16s.

Sgt. Jason Burton of Hill Air Force Base told The Associated Press Friday that he was trying to gather information but had no immediate details to offer.
