UVa head joins Philip Morris parent Altria’s board

RICHMOND, Va. — Cigarette maker Altria Group says outgoing University of Virginia president John T. Casteen III has been elected to the company’s board of directors.

The Richmond, Va.-based owner of Philip Morris USA, which makes the top-selling Marlboro brand, also said Monday that it increased its board from nine to ten directors.

The 66-year-old Casteen is leaving office Aug. 1 after 20 years as the Charlottesville, Va., school’s seventh president and will become a president emeritus.

Casteen is now a director at Sage Publications Inc., Jefferson Science Associates LLC and the Virginia University Research Partnership Inc.

He also belongs to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s board.
