26 hurt as 2 Metro buses collide in DC suburb

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Authorities say 26 people including high school students were hurt after a Metro bus rear-ended another bus from the Washington-area transit system in pouring rain in a Maryland suburb.

The Thursday morning accident comes a day after a tour bus carrying DC sightseers plunged off a highway in another Maryland suburb, killing the driver and injuring more than a dozen people.

Montgomery County fire department Assistant Chief Scott Graham says the 26 Metro bus injuries were not life threatening.

Eight high school students were involved. Montgomery County Public Schools spokeswoman Lesli Maxwell said the students suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

A spokesman for Montgomery County police said the accident was most likely weather related.
