17 hurt as 2 Metro buses collide in DC suburb
SILVER SPRING, Md. — Authorities say 17 people are hurt after a Metro bus rear-ended another bus from the Washington-area transit system in a Maryland suburb.
The Thursday morning accident comes a day after a tour bus carrying DC sightseers plunged off a highway in another Maryland suburb, killing the driver and injuring more than a dozen people.
Montgomery County fire department Assistant Chief Scott Graham says the 17 Metro bus injuries were not life threatening.
Eight high school students were among the bus passengers. Montgomery County Public Schools spokeswoman Lesli Maxwell said seven students with minor injuries were taken to a hospital while the last was examined at school.
A spokesman for Montgomery County police said the accident was most likely related to rainy weather.
