John Wiley & Sons 4Q net income rises 14 percent
HOBOKEN, N.J. — Business publisher John Wiley & Sons Inc. said Thursday its fiscal fourth-quarter net income rose 14 percent, helped by stronger sales of higher education and professional and trade publications.
For the three months ended April 30, quarterly earnings rose to $28 million, or 46 cents per share, from $24.5 million, or 42 cents per share, in the same period last year.
The latest quarter’s results included a restructuring charge of 1 cent per share.
Revenue increased 8 percent to $435.6 million from $403.4 million. The company said the professional and trade division saw revenue grow 18 percent to $113 million, with especially strong sales in the U.S.
Higher education publications brought in revenue of $45 million, a 27 percent increase.
For the full year, the company’s net income rose 12 percent to $143.5 million, or $2.41 per share, from $128.3 million, or $2.15 per share, in the 2009 fiscal year.
Full-year revenue rose 5 percent to $1.7 billion from $1.6 billion.
John Wiley & Sons said it expects mid-single digit revenue growth in the current fiscal year.
Shares of John Wiley rose 50 cents to close at $39.64.
