NH college settles pilfered poetry program lawsuit

CONCORD, N.H. — A New Hampshire college has settled a lawsuit accusing its former director of its poetry master’s degree program of stealing faculty and recreating the program at a rival New Jersey school.

In 2008, New England College sued Anne Marie Macari and Drew University, where Macari now directs a similar program. It accused Macari of conspiring with the Madison, N.J., university and recruiting her colleagues for the new program while still working for the college in Henniker.

Macari argued that she fulfilled her obligations in New Hampshire and that the model she used to create the Drew program wasn’t unique to the college.

A lawyer for the college would only say Wednesday that the parties have resolved their differences. Macari and her lawyer didn’t immediately return telephone calls seeking comment.
