BEIJING - In a first, Chinese authorities will standardise all primary school buses in the country to ensure safety of pupils when they commute between home and school.

The standards, jointly issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and the Standardisation Administration, will come into force July 1.

As per new rules, all school buses will have seat belts as well as reserved seats for caretakers, Xinhua reported Friday. Double-decker busses will not be allowed to serve as primary school buses. The buses will also have a device to record driving speed, time and mileage.
