Pittsburgh cops ask for patience in beating probe
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s police chief is asking for patience as the city investigates allegations that three officers brutally beat an 18-year-old viola player.
Chief Nate Harper says Tuesday that the investigation may appear slow but that “it will be thorough and it will reveal the facts.”
Jordan Miles alleges undercover police beat him Jan. 12 when he was walking near his mother’s house. Pictures taken by his mother show his face covered with bruises and his right eye swollen shut.
Terez Miles says the three white officers targeted her son because he is black.
Police say Miles appeared to be armed but that a bulky object in his pocket turned out to be a soda bottle. The officers have been reassigned and put in uniform while the city investigates.
