NEW DELHI - Delhi government has formulated guidelines for nursery admissions and it will be a balance of both the point and lottery systems, an official said Wednesday.

“The admission guidelines for unaided public schools will be announced Wednesday evening as it has been formulated. The government has tried to balance both the point and lottery systems in the new guidelines,” a Delhi government official said.

The government had sought the opinion of the law department before finalising the guidelines, the official said.

However, the representatives of school associations had reiterated that the existing 100-point system, under which points are given for various criteria, is the best method for admission.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the new nursery admission policy should be transparent.

BJP’s Delhi chief Vijendra Gupta said that before announcing the new plan, the government should make sure no child is deprived of his right to education.

“At the time of admission, priority should be given to the child living in the neighbourhood,” Gupta told reporters.
