Famous British school recreated in China

LONDON - A famous British school that was founded some 150 years ago has been recreated in a Chinese city, it was reported here.

Wellington College International has been constructed in Tianjin with building designs that are a spitting image of its British counterpart.

Wellington College was founded as a British independent school by Queen Victoria in 1859.

The new institution, which is due to open to students in August next year, was inaugurated by the Duke of York Friday, Daily Mail reported Monday.

The school in China has been built in the French rococo style and will also have identical uniform, house names and other striking similarities.

“For those present at the inauguration ceremony, it was like visiting Wellington College in Berkshire, except the scene was five thousand miles away, in the picturesque port city of Tianjin,” David Cook, headmaster of the new school, was quoted as saying.
