Punjab enhances fee for medical courses

CHANDIGARH - Studying medicine in Punjab will cost more from the next academic session with the state government enhancing the fee for MBBS, Bachelor of Dental Sciences (BDS), ayurvedic and homeopathy courses.

A state government spokesman said Wednesday that the new fee structure has been approved by a high-level committee headed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The fee for seats reserved for non-resident Indians (NRIs) has been enhanced from $75,000 to $100,000 for the entire MBBS course.

The fee for existing 50 percent government quota seats in various medical colleges for MBBS courses has been enhanced from Rs.115,000 to Rs.150,000 annually.

The fee for 35 percent management quota seats has been increased from Rs.300,000 to Rs.400,000 annually.

The fee for government quota seats for BDS course in dental colleges has been raised from Rs.63,250 to Rs.150,000 annually.

However, the fee for management quota seats for BDS course has been slashed from Rs.230,000 to Rs.150,000.

For the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor of Homeopathy courses, the fee will be Rs.80,000 per year, the spokesman added.
