Dana College Announcement Shocks All

BLAIR, Nebraska (GaeaTimes.com)- Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, a member of the GPAC Athletic Conference will close its doors only weeks before the start of the new session of the next year. The college made its announcement on Wednesday which shocked the students, their parents and faculties as the old Dana College has been in operation for more than 125 years. The reason cited as The Higher Learning Commission Board did not transfer Dana College’s accreditation to its new owners.
Dana College authorities have however said that the present students can continue their studies through the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Gerandview University in Iowa. The news has disturbed the students and parents a great deal and even the faculties present in the Dana College will become unemployed when the college closes. However, the school authorities have said that they are working to provide employment to the employees of the college. Board Chairman Dennis Gethmann has told a media source that the school authorities are “devastated” as despite meeting all requests and “assiduously” working to meet all requirements the HLC decision has made Dana College to discontinue its operation.
Dana College authorities in a press meeting has called the Higher Learning Commission Board’s decision as inaccurate, unfair and based on speculation and information not included in the required change of control request. The college authorities have also said the updates will be available on the official site of Dana College. The college statement said that the college will remain close for academic year 2010-2011, however, it is not clarified yet if Dana College will open after 2011.
