NM teens file lawsuit after football camp hazing
LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Seven teenagers who were sodomized with a broom handle at a high school football camp near Las Vegas, N.M., have sued over the attacks.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in state district court, seeks unspecified damages.
Six Robertson High School football players were accused of assaulting the younger players in August 2008.
The older players were kicked off the team and expelled. They have since taken plea deals in a criminal case stemming from the attacks.
The lawsuit names the Las Vegas school board, the district’s current and former superintendents, the school’s athletic director and football coaches at the time, the attackers, their parents and the owners of the camp.
The complaint alleges Robertson’s football program has tolerated and-or encouraged a widespread culture of inappropriate sexual behavior.
