MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Maharashtra Chief minister Ashok Chavan attended a high level meeting on Thursday where he discussed the recent Bombay High Court Verdict on the best five policy adopted in the SSC exams in the Maharashtra education board this year. The Bombay High Court quashed the policy and it has put the thousands of students who passed examination in trouble. The policy was created by the school education department for admission in junior colleges but it was quashed by the court for the third successive year. It was decided in the meeting that the state government can approach the apex court on the issue, challenging the high court order.
The Bombay High Court rejected the best 5 policy on the ground that it is unfair to the students belonging to other education boards who would seek admission to junior colleges. In Thursday’s meeting it was also suggested that the SSC students will get the mark sheets approximately within a fortnight. The time is adequate for the state government to seek the verdict of the Supreme Court. The government is of the opinion that the new policy was not introduced in a hurry. On the contrary, it was announced in February.
The legal experts who attended the CM meeting on the Bombay High court order expressed the opinion that the state can go ahead with the admission process. If the Supreme Court overturns the High court verdict then the policy can be implemented. There are other detractors of the best 5 policy though. They are of the opinion that it would result in increased competition among the students to vie for limited seats in colleges.
