NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- On Tuesday the Supreme Court of India declined to entertain a petition seeking a stay on the publication of IIT Results 2010. The Court also came down heavily on the petitioner, Satya Foundation, an NGO for what the court has labeled as a publicity stunt. The apex court said that the objective of the petitioner is dubious. The judges questioned the NGO why its representatives did not bother to file a petition on serious and important issues like the Dantewada killing. The petitioner argued that the publication of the results of the IIT 2010 exam should be stalled as there were a number of mistakes in the instructions with the question papers this year.

The petition seeking a stay on the IIT 2010 exam results claimed that the marking system was faulty as well and the result published with it can put the future of the applicant students at stake. The vacation bench comprising of justices C K Prasad and G S Singhvi however, squashed the PIL and said that stalling the result may put the future of the candidates at jeopardy and it may result in some students attempting suicide out of fear and uncertainty. It needs to be noted that the petition was turned down by Delhi High Court a few days back as well.

The Apex court severely rebuked the secretary of the association that filed the PIL for the IIT Results 2010 and said it should have been made to pay a steep fine for filing the gimmicky petition. The court also observed that a petitioner should be careful about filing PILs that are related to the career of brilliant students.
