MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The students who sat for their SSC exams under the Maharashtra board were elated when their results came out on Thursday. The result was good owing to the newly implemented best 5 policy by the board. This system was adopted earlier by the CBSC board but it is the first time the Maharashtra State Board implemented it. It ensures that the best 5 scores of a student are taken into account. It has resulted in individual marks going up and the overall pass percentage touching a record high.
Last year the pass percentage in SSC was 78.91 percent but this year it has shot up to 83.62 percentage. The number of students who have scored over 90 percent have also shot up as a result of the new policy. However, a section of educationists are not happy with the new policy. They think it will make getting into colleges more difficult as the number of students with high marks has shot up.
The 2.8 lakh students who have cleared the SSC exam will have to compete for 2.5 lakh seats in the junior colleges. The educationists also think that the new policy is helpful for the majority of students with average intelligence but also gives them a sense of overconfidence which could prove to be detrimental. It is only expected that the junior colleges have been forced to raise the cut off mark for the various streams. A court case is pending on the policy and this will take a toll on the admission procedure. It will get delayed.
