Maharashtra State Board

MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Maharashtra State Board has declared that there shall be no felicitation or any kind of recognition for the board exam toppers this year. It was also declared by the Maharashtra State Board that it intends to reduce and lessen the competition between the students coming from various categories by refraining from the merit list announcement. Balasaheb Thorat who happens to be the school education minister announced the decision of Maharashtra State Board in front of the media.

The school education minister also underlined the fact that the decision is in accordance to RTE (Right to Education) Act which aims at all round development of the child and not just academic results. The minister is of the opinion that the merit list which is being declared and the felicitations which are being held is one of the chief cause of competition between the students.

However, the Maharashtra State Board shall continue to award students who emerges to be the subject toppers. As matter of fact the current decision of the Maharashtra State Board recalls the decision of ex school education minister Vasant Purke who had proposed the same for all HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) and SSC (Secondary School Certificate) exams. Following his proposal the Higher Secondary Certificate exams toppers weren’t recognized and the board also refrained from announcing the merit list but it still carried on with the felicitation of the board exam toppers. Reportedly, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education shall continue to declare the names of state toppers, top stream scorer, top scorer among the girls, and top scorer among OBC (Other Backward Classes) and Handicapped candidates.
