China sentences man to death for school attack

BEIJING — A state-run Chinese news agency says a man has been sentenced to death for a knife attack at a school in April even though no one died in the rampage, one of a string of violent incidents at schools that shocked the country.

The attack by Chen Kangbing, a 33-year-old former teacher at a primary school in the city of Leizhou in Guangdong province, left 16 students and a teacher wounded.

The official Xinhua News Agency quoted the verdict by the Intermediate People’s Court of Zhanjiang City as saying “Chen hacked at the children and teacher in a very cruel manner, causing great harm.”
