Judge annuls restraining order against Wyo. paper
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Wyoming judge has dissolved a rare restraining order that prohibited a newspaper from publishing stories about a college president’s trip to Costa Rica.
District Judge Peter Arnold on Tuesday dissolved his order against the Wyoming Tribune Eagle.
Media experts say orders barring the press from publishing material are extremely rare and raise constitutional issues.
Arnold on Friday had ordered the newspaper not to publish information about an internal report concerning Laramie County Community College President Darrel Hammon’s trip to Costa Rica in 2008. He served as a chaperone on the trip.
On Tuesday, the judge dismissed the college’s argument that it could lose federal funding if the information was published.
