Girls outperform boys in CBSE exams in Allahabad region

LUCKNOW - Girls outshone boys in the Class 12 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams in the Allahabad region, which comprises six states - Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa.

The results were declared Friday by the CBSE regional centre in Allahabad, some 200 km from here. The overall pass percentage came down to 75.95 this year as compared to 76.74 the previous year, officials said.

Girls outshone boys with an impressive pass percentage of 81.55 compared to boys’ pass percentage of 70.82, they added.

Under the Allahabad region, a total of 117,179 boys appeared for the exam but only 82,982 were declared successful. Among girls, 54,288 out of 66,570 secured the pass percentage.

CBSE regional officer Rajveer Singh said: “All together 186,362 students were registered for the exams from the Allahabad region. Out of those who took the exams, 137,270 were successful.”

According to the CBSE regional office, Orissa topped the list with a 89.67 pass percentage followed by West Bengal with 86.46 percent, Jharkhand 80.46 percent, Uttar Pradesh 74.18 percent, Uttarakhand 73.63 percent and Bihar 64.33 percent.

From Uttar Pradesh, a total of 92,857 students appeared for the exams. Among them, 68,880 were successful, officials said.
