Oriya students from Delhi seek help from Naveen Patnaik

BHUBANESWAR - A group of Oriya students from Delhi has written to Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking creation of facilities for them in the national capital, a representative of the students said Monday.

Delhi Oriya Students Association president Tejeswar Parida said, in a letter to Patnaik, they have sought setting up of a cultural centre-cum-library and a higher education cell in Delhi.

He said they have also requested revival of a students’ hostel that used to cater to the needs of Oriya students in Delhi.

“We have also sent letters on these issues to other concerned people in the state government,” he told IANS over phone from Delhi.

He said an Oriya library in Delhi was also urgently needed as students and academicians from the state face problems in finding Oriya literature and journals.

Parida said the state can promote its higher education institutions by opening a cell in Delhi.

He said last week a delegation of the association met Patnaik during his stay at Delhi and discussed the issues with him.
