Storm which caused massive destruction to life and property last week has now badly derailed teaching in Bihar, putting a big question mark over the fate of around 90,000 children enrolled in government schools.
A disaster managment official today said the storm packed with a speed of 125 kmp/h has damaged a total of 485 school buildings in three eastern Bihar districts.
The official said the storm has damaged 180 school buildings in Araria, 155 in Purnia and 150 in Kishenganj district. Around 90,000 children were enrolled in these schools.
Under the impact of storm, many of the schools buildings were either damaged or had their roofs blown away.
“We are not sending our children to the schools since they do not have roofs while mercury has risen alarmingly in the past few weeks”, said an anxious parent Dipendra Goswami from Purnia.
An official report said the storm has killed 90 people and damaged over 100,000 houses in Bihar, apart from destroying standing crops in thousands of acres of land.
