RENO (GaeaTimes.com)- Jaime Escalante, the mathematics teacher who made calculus fun, is no more. The 79 year old teacher whose life had inspired the 1988 movie “Stand and Deliver” died at Reno, Nevada. He was suffering from bladder cancer. The actor who played the part of the teacher in the movie, Edward James Olmos confirmed that the beloved teacher had passed away. Jaime Escalante was known for his innovative teaching methods that improved the results of the students of the Garfield high school of East Los Angeles. During a recent fund raising program organized by Edward James Olmos for paying the huge medical bills of Jaime Escalante, the actor reportedly said that the teacher did not only teach mathematics but changed the lives of his students.

The Bolivian immigrant, Jaime Escalante worked hard to manage and motivate the unruly students of the school who belonged to the working class. He was disappointed with not only the syllabus that he was given to teach but also the way students were taught in the school. Jaime Escalante worked hard to gather students and make them interested in higher mathematics. He was able to get students who went on to prove their merit in calculus and higher science. He struggled to prove that each and every student can excel under proper guidance.

The life of Jaime Escalante and his struggle has become an example of a great teacher. He became one of the most prominent teachers in America and teachers from many other countries and states came to attend his classes and note the way he taught. Jaime Escalante revolutionized the way of teaching mathematics in school.
