BEIJING - China has warned schools and teachers not to accept any gift or bribe or “misuse” public money during the coming New Year holiday season, a media report said Saturday.

The ministry of education has issued a circular saying teachers have been banned from accepting money, securities and other costly gifts from students and their parents, Xinhua reported.

They must also not ask for gifts from students, the document said.

The ministry has also forbidden schools to spend public money on festival banquets, gifts, overseas tours or entertainment activities.
