DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The new rules of the All India Council for Technical Education commonly called AICTE have not gone down well with the B schools that offer PGDM programs countrywide. The AICTE diktat says that the prevalent management entrance exams conducted by reputed management schools like the XAT, MICAT or ATMA will no longer be held valid. Apart from that the rule says that only MAT, CAT and certain state government-conducted exams including the CET will beheld valid for granting entry to the B-schools affiliated to AICTE. The declaration appeared by the end of last year in leading dailies and it goes “Admission to all PGDM Courses shall be done through common entrance test such as CAT/MAT or Examinations conducted by the respective State Governments for all Institutions other than Minority Institutions.”

AICTE regional officer and director for Western Region and its Dr Prabhat Kumar Sahoo was asked about this new directive. He admitted the new development. However, he said that in his personal opinion XAT, the entrance test to the coveted management institute XLRI should not be scrapped. The institutes affiliated to deemed universities will not come under the new rule, he pointed out. The institutes offering AICTE- approved PGDM and functioning in an autonomous way so far will be affected. The exclusion of XAT from this rule is still under processing as it was reported.

AICTE has said that its new admission rule will not affect the IIMs as they are not under its governance. The B schools are far from happy with this move and they are contemplating their next move.
