Vice chancellors appointed for two Maharashtra varsities

MUMBAI - Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Thursday appointed new vice chancellors for the Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth in Ahmednagar district and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad district, a statement said.

Dr. Tukaram A. More, the former director of Indian Institute of Vegetable Research in Varanasi was appointed the vice chancellor of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth in Rahuri, Ahmednagar.

More is a Ph.D in Horticulture (1977) and has earned Post Doctoral Fellowship from the Cornell University. He succeeds Dr R.B. Deshmukh, whose term ended Feb 9, 2010.

Dr V.M. Pandharipande, currently professor and director, Centre for Excellence in Microwave Engineering, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad was appointed as the vice chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.

Pandharipande obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (electrical and communication) from Viswesaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur with distinction in 1970. He secured his M. Tech from IIT Kharagpur in 1972, and was later awarded Ph.D in microwave engineering by the same institution in 1980.

He is the recipient of the ‘Best Teacher Award’ of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Sir Visvesvaraya Award, the Anna University National Award and the Best Teacher Award of the Osmania University.

Pandharipande succeeds Prof. Nagnath Kottapalle whose term expired June 4, 2010.

Both appointments are for five years.
