Student Federation of India (SFI) supporter Swapan Kole died after he was thrashed while filing his nomination for college elections at Andul College in Howrah district Thursday following a clash between the Trinamool Congress Chatra Parishad (TMCP) and the SFI, students’ wing of the Communist Party of India-Marxist.
In a separate incident Thursday, 10 students were injured in a clash between the two groups outside Asutosh College in south Kolkata.
“In the last few months we a have also witnessed brutal murders of teachers by Maoists. Actually whenever a unholy force tries to rise they resort to violence and destruction,” Bhattacharjee said.
