Chinese scientist to get D.Litt from Jadavpur University

KOLKATA - Chinese scientist Lu Yongxiang would be given a honorary D. Litt by Jadavpur University here in recognition of his contribution to the fields of science and engineering, an official said.

“The award will be presented to Lu at the convocation Dec 24,” Jadavpur University pro-vice chancellor Siddhartha Dutta told IANS.

Lu, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will also deliver the keynote address, Dutta said.

A mechanical engineer, Lu has authored 250 research papers in the field of fluid power transmission and control and higher education of engineering. Besides, he holds 25 patents in China, Europe and the US.

Alongwith Lu, the university will also award an honorary D. Litt to Badal Sarkar, the vanguard in Bengali theatre movement.

A playwright, director and actor, his popular works include “Ebong Indrajit”, “Pagla Ghora” and “Baki Itihas”.
