AMBEDKAR NAGAR - The principals of two government schools in this Uttar Pradesh district have been suspended for holding a condolence meeting and closing the schools on rumours about the death of a state minister, officials said Friday.

“Principals of the Nenua Primary School and Nenua Upper Primary School in the Katehari area have been suspended for closing the school on rumours of a minister’s death,” district in-charge of primary and upper primary education Rakesh Kumar told reporters in the town, some 150 km from Lucknow.

“Merely on the basis of the rumour of Transport Minister Ram Achal Rajbhar’s death, the two Thursday morning closed the schools after holding a two-minute condolence meeting,” he added.

After the district authorities learnt that the two schools were closed following the rumour of Rajbhar’s death, an enquiry was ordered by the district magistrate. Later, on the basis of the enquiry report, the district administration late Thursday ordered suspension of the two principals.

Besides suspending the two principals, adverse entries have been made in the service records of three teachers of the schools.
