President to open Sri Venkateswara college’s 50th year bash

NEW DELHI - President Pratibha Patil will inaugurate the golden jubilee celebrations of Delhi University’s Sri Venkateswara college Aug 17.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan will also attend the function to be held at Vigyan Bhavan in the capital.

Sharing the details of the golden jubilee celebrations, Hemalatha Reddy, principal of the college, said: “The college was established in 1961 and the 50th year function is being jointly organised by the faculty members and college alumni association. The function is largely funded by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).”

The inauguration ceremony and address by the president will be followed by launching of special stamps to commemorate the occasion.

Three top students will be awarded gold medals by the President.

“We are planning to conduct a year-long festivity with a series of academic and cultural events followed by our inauguration function. A series of symposiums, golden memorial lectures, and cultural and sporting events will continue in the college for this whole year,” Reddy added.
