92 teams participate in IGNOU quiz contest in Bangalore

BANGALORE - A total 92 teams of two members each participated in the first-ever multi-city inter-school general quiz contest hosted by the Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) here Tuesday.

Sri Kumaran’s Children Home (SKCH) comprising Milind Hegde and Vikas Kashyap bagged the Winner’s Trophy and individual trophies.

The runners-up were also from SKCH, with Aditya Hebber and Shishir Bhardwaj walked away with individual trophies and book vouchers.

The keenly-fought competition was held at Yavanika in the heart of the city to create greater awareness about IGNOU and its contemporary courses with potential to benefit millions of young Indians.

IGNOU Vice-Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai presented the prizes to the winners. The open university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Latha Pillai and its Bangalore regional director Sudhindra were also present on the occasion.

The third spot was shared by two teams - Anurup A.K. and Nanjundeshwara N of Deeksha Centre for Learning, and Arun S and Ameya M. Talanki of Christ Junior College.

National Hillview Public School team consisting of Prithvi Hegde and P.V.S.S. Raju came fourth, while Deeksha Centre for Learning’s team of Vivek Aithal K.R. and K. Krishna Chaitanya were placed fifth.

The final round comprised six rounds, including one audio-video round and one on IGNOU.

An exhibition was also organised at the venue to enlighten students about IGNOU and its several programmes.

IGNOU is the largest university in the world by enrolment with about three million students on its rolls.

Cheering squads of various schools kept the morale of their respective teams high by clapping as and when they found their team doing well.

A few questions were put to the audience and those who gave correct answers were also rewarded with prizes.
