GANDHINAGAR - Girls undergoing vocational training in industrial training institutes (ITIs) in Gujarat have been exempted from paying tuition fees, Labour and Employment Minister Vajubhai Vala said here Wednesday.

The minister told reporters that 14 ITIs specifically for girls were being run in the state and more would be added if the need was felt.

“It is the aim of the state to have a training institute in every taluka (sub-district) of the state either run by the government or by others with government aid. A total of 52 industrial training institutes will come up in the state this year,” Vala said.

In keeping with the World Bank advisory, 37 ITIs in the state have been upgraded to centres of excellence and another 66 would also be similarly upgraded under the public- private partnership scheme, he said.

“To ensure that requisite standards are maintained, 37 industrial training institutes and 23 employment exchanges in the state have received certification from the ISO,” Vala added.
