Women police, CCTV to prevent ragging on campus

NEW DELHI - Women police officers in large numbers, police vans and closed circuit television - all arrangements are in place to prevent any ragging of freshers as Delhi University’s new academic session begins Wednesday, officials said.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said the police are working in tandem with the university administration to prevent any act of ragging.
“No incidence of ragging or similar to it by any student in the premises of the university, whether by words spoken or written or with the help of any act will be allowed. We have deployed woman police officers, PCR vans and are in constant touch with the university authorities to tackle the situation,” Bhagat told IANS.
The anti-ragging measures were decided upon at a meeting of the university proctor, principals of colleges, wardens of hostels of Delhi University and Delhi Police on Saturday.
“We have taken a decision that both educational institutions and the police would work in close coordination and any incident of ragging, however trivial, would be taken seriously,” Bhagat said.
CCTV cameras have also been placed across the campus, which will be swarming with thousands of new students, to monitor the situation.
“We have done very wide publicity for ‘no ragging’ for the freshers who would be in the campus for the first day,” the spokesperson added.
