MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) India has approached MCI India (Medical Council Of India) for replacing the animals that are being used in medical training. Reportedly, MCI India has already disapproved the plan for maintaining an animal house in all medical colleges of the country.

PETA officials have issued letters to prominent medical colleges in Mumbai operating under MCI India. The colleges which have been issued letters from PETA are Seth G.S. Medical College, Grant Medical College, Topiwala National Medical College along with Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College. In their letter PETA have urged all colleges to replace the use of the animals in the medical training and train the aspiring medicos by “non-animal” methods. Dr. Anuradha Srivastava who happens to be the campaign coordinator informed the same to the media on Tuesday. MCI India has been asked to advise the school to adopt computerized models which shall help them to replace the animals.

PETA in their letter to MCI India have urged them to scrap all methods which uses animals to train the students in the medical colleges. They are of the opinion that medical colleges in India should focus more upon the use of computer assisted models which is a fine replacement. The students in medical colleges in due course of their live studies have to pierce their instruments through the brains of frogs which PETA considers to be cruel. They also said that MCI India should follow the same measures adopted by the medical colleges of America where there are no animal training methods but only interactive computer assisted models. PETA considers this to be a full proof process and perfectly suited for all medical students.
