NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Friday asked the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to submit the report on the accounts of 25 private schools in the capital, including Modern School, Barakhamba Road, Amity International, Vasant Valley, DPS RK Puram and Sardar Patel.
A division bench of Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Siddharth Mridul directed the CAG to give the report by July 16. The direction came on a petition filed by the parents association challenging the city government’s decision to allow private unaided schools to hike tuition and development fees.
Ashok Aggarwal, counsel for the parents’ association, submitted that the CAG report suggested that many of these schools diverted the funds for commercial purposes. He further submitted that there was no need for hiking the tuition fees as the schools have surplus money in their accounts as per the CAG report.
A public interest lawsuit had been filed by Delhi Abhibhavak Sangh, NGO Social Jurists, and Faith Academy Parent’s Association, seeking quashing of the notification issued by the state education department Feb 11 last year permitting the schools to hike tuition and development fees with retrospective effect from Jan 1, 2006.
