NEW DELHI - The Delhi government has proposed the refund of court fees if litigants settle cases on their own or with the court’s intervention, a move that is aimed at speedier disposal of cases, an official said Monday.

A state cabinet meeting Monday approved the draft of the Court Fees Amendment Bill, 2010. The bill seeks an amendment in Section 16 of the act, a central government law enforced in the national capital.

A state government official said the amendment became essential as several cases are now being settled through mediation following the setting up of district mediation centres.

The bill will be sent to the central government after it is approved by the lieutenant governor. After the central government’s approval, the bill will be introduced in the Delhi assembly.

In another decision, the state cabinet allowed educational institutions to continue functioning from Lal Dora areas during 2010-11.

The institutes will also be allowed increase the existing courses subject to enough built-up space available. However, no new construction can be taken up by the institutes for the purpose.
