SAN FRANCISCO (GaeaTimes.com)- The ACT test dates have been released and it is time for the American students to pull up their socks and start preparing for the exams. The registrations will be done on the official ACT website. The exam that determines the colleges and universities across the United States and Canada is a highly crucial point in every student’s life. The ACT test will test the students in English, Mathematics, Science and General Reading and then the students eligibility for choosing the college or university and course will depend accordingly.
The ACT authorities have said that the ACT assessment measures the high school students’ overall educational development and the capability to compete at the college level with the multiple choice tests covering the main skills. The dates announced are September 11, 2010, October 23, 2010, December 11, 2010, February 12, 2011, April 9, 2011 and June 11, 2011. Apart from the four key areas the ACT also has an optional writing paper where the candidates have to write a short essay. The total score in English is 75 with College Readiness benchmark at 18, for maths the benchmark goes up to 22 and the total score is down to 60. The total scores of both reading and science are fixed at 40 each and the College Readiness benchmark is 21 for reading and 24 for science.
Though ACT Inc. does not provide any practice papers or study materials, there are a number of independent and private organizations that help guide the students to prepare for the ACT test. The colleges and universities throughout the United States do not keep ACT as the only criterion for selection. Other important data like class rank, G.P.A., and extracurricular activities are also considered before admission.
