University Of Delhi’s New Chemistry Course

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The University of Delhi which is considered as one of the leading universities of the country has come up with a new and unique BSc (honours) course in chemistry. The new system introduces 24 papers which the students have to clear in 6 semesters. The new areas that have been brought in the course include computer applications in chemistry, biochemistry and method of chemical analysis. A K Bakhshi, who is the head of department of chemistry in the university, said that the students of chemistry often have to work in matters related with biology, environmental science and geology.

As a matter of fact the University of Delhi has a total of 934 seats for Chemistry Honours in 18 colleges affiliated to it. To get into the course in any of the college affiliate to this university a student needs to secure 55% or more in physics, chemistry and mathematics and above 50% in a compulsory language. However, different colleges have different cut off marks. The course content can be segregated in three sections- inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. This is going to be a new experience for the students who are interested to study Chemistry.

After doing the graduation in Chemistry from the University of Delhi a student can do his or her masters in the subject. One can also specialize on branches like biochemistry or inorganic chemistry. Pervin Malhotra, a career counselor thinks that the students of Chemistry can find jobs in environmental protection sectors, public health as well as chemical and pharmaceutical entities. The opening in corporate sector is also there.
