Summary Box: PTA, Facebook to promote Web safety

JOINING FORCES: The National PTA and Facebook are teaming up to promote Internet safety through a set of tools and resources for kids, schools and parents.

WHY IT MATTERS: Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt says the plan is not just to educate kids about being on Facebook, but about being online, and adds that the sooner we can “instill responsible behavior, the better.”

SAFETY FIRST: Child safety advocate Parry Aftab also welcomed the program, and said it’s important for parents not to be scared of technology but to use it to their advantage to communicate with their kids.
