WORK AND STUDY: Wal-Mart’s 1.4 million domestic workers at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores are eligible for a tuition break from the online American Public University. Wal-Mart is devoting $50 million over three years for financial aid.
WORK AND EARN CREDIT: Workers can receive college credit for their Wal-Mart training and experience. APU is evaluating various Wal-Mart positions for what kinds of credits should be granted.
LARGER PURPOSE: Wal-Mart says it wants its workers to become qualified for promotions within the company or so they can get better jobs with someone else.
