CORONA, NORCO (GaeaTimes.com)- Erin Gruwell, the teacher who is the inspiration behind the movie “Freedom Writers” payed a visit to the students of the Corona - Norco area to share her own story of her days at the Woodrow Wilson High School situated in Long Beach. Her words to the students last Friday seemed to have a huge impact on the little children who have been highly abused in the past and have been victims of rape. These mostly homeless students were seen both crying and laughing to the words of the great teacher.
The lecture which Erin Gruwell delivered at the John F. Kennedy Middle College High School in Norco was indeed thought provoking. She explained to all present how the story of such homeless people had in the first place inspired the book and later the making of the movie “Freedom Writers” with Hilary Swank in the lead. Erin Gruwell’s words seemed to impress the students of JFK who have also found themselves in such conditions many times in the past.
Not only a lecture, Erin Gruwell also presented a new documentary film for the students in Narco. This film titled “Voices Unbound: the Story of the Freedom Writers” also centers around such deprived people who have been wronged in life but at the same time have fought back with tolerance and courage. The film which has already been screened at the Krikorian Theatres at Dos Lagos, is supposed to release in theaters in this fall. Erin Gruwell’s effort is indeed commendable and an inspiration to many all over the world.
