Disabled outperform general students in Class 10 CBSE exams

NEW DELHI - Disabled students performed better than general students in this year’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 exams, the results of which were declared Friday.

Of the total 1,866 disabled students appearing for the exam, 89.34 percent are eligible for the qualifying certificate — 0.06 percent more than the qualifying percentage of general students.

A total of 1,916 disabled students — 314 blind, 113 deaf, 913 physically handicapped, 38 spastic and 538 dyslexic — were eligible to take the examination but only 1,866 wrote it.

Of these, 1,667 disabled students are eligible for the qualifying certificate with as many as 64 scoring cumulative grade point average above 9.4 — equal to 89.3 percent, an official release from the board said.

The highest number of top-scoring students with disability is from Allahabad and Chennai with both having 26 students each scoring above 9.4. Highest number of 685 disabled students took the exams from Delhi.

The CBSE Friday declared the Class 10 examination results for the Delhi, Guwahati, Allahabad, Ajmer, Chennai and Panchkula regions. As many as 894,137 students appeared in the exams.
