NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The IIT topper from Delhi Sahal Kaushik does not look any different from any teenager you will see in the neighborhood, but there is something special about this boy. The 14 year old who is still not comfortable with all the attention he has been getting after the declaration of the IIT results, has become the youngest ever applicant to crack IIT JEE test in the country. His all India rank is 33 which is really impressive. However, the most interesting thing about him is that he is the topper in Delhi and he received his education at home by his mother. His mother Ruchi Kaushik was a doctor who gave up her profession and became a homemaker.
Sahal Kaushik showed the signs of spark from his childhood. He could memorize things better than other kids and incredible as it may sound, he finished H G Well’s ‘Time Machine’ at the age of 6! He says that a large part of his success goes to his mother but his idol is the stalwart scientist Albert Einstein. It is not yet decided what course he will take up but his mother hinted that he just might opt for a MSc in physics from IIT Kanpur which is offered as a five-year integrated MSc course.
The IIT does not set any age bar as such but an applicant needs to pass his STD 12th exam. For concentrating on IIT Sahal Kaushik could not give much time to his class XII studies. His mother is very happy as her efforts and struggle has paid off well.
