HYDERABAD, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The SSC (Secondary School Certificate) board has introduced a grading system for the 10th class examination this year. The 9-point grading system will evaluate both subject marks and total marks in a relative manner. According to the authorities this will provide a better assessment of the students marks as well as the overall performance by all the candidates. The SSC exam is a public exam that gives a certificate for completion of 10 years of education to class 10 students. The Andhra Pradesh Class 10 SSC results will implement this Relative grading system for the first time.
The SSC introduced grades are A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1,D2 and E. the A1 indicates the top 12.5 percent scores among the total candidates. A2 indicates the people whose marks are between 12.5 to 25 percent of the total candidates. Similarly B1 will mean less than the top 25% but more than 37.5 percent. B2, C1, C2, and D1 follow the same trend of a 12.5 percent difference between the number of candidates of each grade. D2 will therefore indicate the bottom 12.5 percent of the passed candidates and that is between 87.5 to 100% of the total passed candidates. For example if there are one lakh candidates appearing for the exam, A1 will be awarded to the top 12500 candidates. Grade E indicates fail that is less than 35% marks. WH means ‘results withheld for want of information’, MP stands for malpractice, CP for compartmentally passed and AB indicates absent for all exams.
The new grade system by the SSC will in due time become the norm for all State Boards. The marks system has come under criticism for the pressure it puts on the students. ICSE and CBSE boards have also been trying to implement the grade system concept in their exams.
