Want to learn Arabic, Turkish, Pashto or Kyrgyz? Choose from 14 offered at Jamia

NEW DELHI - Want to learn Arabic, Turkish, Uzbek, Pashto or Kyrgyz? Then a look at the list of 14 foreign language courses offered in the Jamia Milia University is worth looking at.

Offered by the faculty of humanities and languages, Centre for European and Latin American Studies (CELAS) and the MMAJ- Academy of Third World Studies (MMAJ-ATWS), students can opt for either a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma course offered in the various languages.

Among the languages offered are modern Arabic, modern Persian, Kazhaki, Turkmenian, Pashto, Turkish, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Spanish, Portugese, French, Russian, Italian and Catalan.

“To cater to the rising demand of foreign languages in India, Jamia has the following courses on offer. These courses not only offer career options in translation, interpretation and the likes but also give access to archives and sources in these languages for pursuing academic research,” a university statement said.

The last date for application for these language courses for the academic year 2010-11 is June 18. The intake capacity for the courses vary from 10 to 50.

The 91-year-old university, set up by nationalist Muslims in the wake of the non-cooperation movement against British rule, has 18,000 students and 800 staff on its rolls. Its nine faculties runs about 200 courses.
