NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday condemned what it said were celebrations by some Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student over the massacre of security personnel by Maoists in Chhatisgarh. The varsity denied any such incident took place.

BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra told IANS: “Yesterday (Friday) a group of students celebrated the massacre in which 75 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and one Chhattisgarh police personnel were killed by the Maoists. When students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested, they were beaten up.

“The police refused to lodge an FIR (first information report) and the university authorities feigned ignorance about the incident,” he added.

Authorities at JNU told IANS that no permission for this kind of event was sought and they were not aware of the incident.
