IIM-Ahmedabad again raises fees for post-graduate course

GANDHINAGAR - The Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has raised the fees for the post-graduate programme in management for the third year in a row, an official said Tuesday.

For the students joining the June 2010-12 batch for the two-year course, the fees structure will be Rs.13.70 lakh payable in two parts - Rs.6.6 lakh in the first year and the balance Rs.7.10 lakh in the second year. This is against Rs.12.5 lakh for the two-year course last year, which in turn was raised from Rs.11.5 lakh the year before that.

The fees increase came following a discussion at the IIM-A board of governors meeting held Saturday, an official spokesman of the institute said here.

The spokesman said the fees hike was decided in view of the significant increase in the costs due to implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations and the inflation-induced price spiral.

The spokesman said the fees to be charged from the student included every other cost in the campus, except the food bill.

Pointing out that the fees hike was 9.6 percent this year, the spokesman said the students coming from the economically weaker families having annual income of less than Rs.6 lakh, would continue to enjoy fee waivers. According to the spokesman, among the current batch, 41 students were granted total freeship during the two-year course.
