The AMIE at the time of its establishment had only five students sitting for the examination, but the numbers now have gone to thousands. Each and every year aspirants sit for the examination to get the certificate which is held equivalent to an Engineering degree by the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The AMIE certification began in the year 1920 in Kolkata. The Institution now has spread its branches and holds examinations at many centers. The examination consists of two sections, Section A, Project work and Section B consists of the examination of the institution. The candidates need to pass both these section to get the valuable certificate which designates them as a graduate of the Institution of Engineers. Many diploma engineers every year sit for the examination and anxiously wait for the results. This year too many professionals are waiting for the result as this will mark them as graduate engineers and help them to get a suitable job in the market. Since it is a non formal educational institution many employed youths take the examination to get higher up in their professional ladder.
