SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The University of California San Diego (UCSD) has found itself amidst widespread racial tension lately. The university recently witnessed an extensive campaign against racial discrimination after a student party ridiculed Black History Month with the help of a ghetto theme. The racism tension in UCSD campus escalated once again on Thursday after a noose was reportedly found on the university library last night.
It is being reported that the noose was discovered hanging on the seventh floor of the Giesel Library on late Thursday night. In the wake of the racial tension that UCSD has been witnessing for some time now, the discovery of the noose in the campus is being perceived to be associated with the racial conflict that has engulfed the university for the last few days. At the same time, the authorities have stated that no information about who hung the noose in the campus has not been available as yet. However, many believe that the discovery of the noose in the university might contribute in enhancing the already high racial tension in UCSD.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a peaceful rally was observed in the UCSD campus in which hundreds of students participated in the teach-in to promote mutual respect among the students. In the campaign, the protesters voiced their demand that the university authorities should take more serious steps to fight racism in the campus and protect the rights of blacks, which includes only two percent of the total student population in UCSD. The black students of the university had taken offense to an off-campus party organized on President’s Day.
