NEW DELHI - Over 500 students from the northeast interacted with police officers on the issue of security and enjoyed a colourful cultural programme as part of the Delhi University’s Northeast Festival Monday.

Organised with an aim to foster a special bond with students of the region and make them more aware of safety measures, the festival was also attended by Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma and her brother James Sangma.

An official of the university said: “James Sangma is an alumni of Ramjas College and was a member of the student’s union, so he has a special bond with Delhi University”.

“The main aim of the fest - Empowering Youth: The North East Students in Delhi University - was to make the students hailing from the region more familiar with the university system. It also aimed to make the students more aware about the safety measures that need to be taken care of as well as the need to foster closer integration with other people in the varsity,” he added.

The students also had an interactive session with senior police officers in which steps taken by Delhi Police on safety measures on the campus were discussed and suggestions taken.
